A foot is a complicated mechanism with 26 bones in each foot (14 of which are in your toes) and three arches – I know I thought I only had one which I always thought to be perfectly formed. 

Since studying for the past year for the Shoefitters’ Society qualification, my shoe shop manager, Vanessa, and myself have been amazed that we treat our feet with so little regard.  If you consider that, on average, we walk between 150,000 and 200,000 miles in our lifetime (that’s walking to Australia AND BACK about ten times), the importance of keeping our feet in good order makes perfect sense.  And yet, a good proportion of us wear the wrong size shoes for most of our lives.  “I have been a Size 10 for all my adult life” you say, but depending on lifestyle and activity your feet may get broader, bonier or a bit mis-shapen.  For example, if you pound the streets training for the next marathon, or if you have to stand on your feet all day, the stresses can make a difference to your foot shape. You may be prone to bunions through genes or high heels but the chances are you wear the same sized shoes you did when you were 18.

 If any of the above rings true with you, help is at hand with our free shoe-fitting service, so if you have been wearing the same size shoe for the last few years, but your feet don’t feel quite as comfortable as they might, pop in and we’ll get measuring.

Not quite yet but not far off. The future’s here, the future’s orange! Well maybe not, but it might soon be blue or green. Blue sky thinking and green eco values are colouring our thoughts.
